The Crocodile Safari (Botswana)

10,000 Birds

Among 60 or so heron species in the world this is the only one using this peculiar fishing technique. It was January, 2001, and here in the southern hemisphere January is the hottest of summer months. Date: January 24th, 2001 (08:30-11:00h). I would not have minded having some shade myself.

The diving, piscivorous grebes were usually grouped with loons.

Greater Rheas, a species the Germans call Nandu, are very popular in Germany and frequently kept in zoos as well as private enclosures.
