As of 2008 only 31 of the 289 cranes released into central Florida were still alive. One of the remaining birds is known to frequent Joe Overstreet Road, a dirt road that runs a few miles through sod farms and cattle pastures between Canoe Creek Road and Lake Kissimmee in Keenansville,about an hour south of Orlando. He likes it there.

It didn’t take much imagination to name Cowbirds or Cattle Egrets or Cattle Tyrants , but there’s more fantasy, even more wit, involved in the naming of other bovine birds. Where Are You Birding This First Weekend of July 2008? They’re all named for livestock. at Princeton University in 1990.
