Sandwich Tern in New York

It was back in July of 2009 , the day that I saw more species of tern than any other day of my life, and I have no pictures of my first Thalasseus sandvicensis because I had managed to forget my digiscoping adapter that day. Until recently I had only ever seen a single Sandwich Tern. Sandwich Terns are apparently quite callous.

Birding Eastern Zimbabwe

And, given the unstable political situation (slightly improved since the unified government of 2009), paucity of fuel, high crime-rate and dire poverty, it is probably last on the list of many traveling birders. Zimbabwe is last in the alphabetical atlas of countries of the world.

In 2004, 2005, and 2009, it was ranked as the most dangerous city in the United States and in 2008 there were 2,333 violent crimes per 100,000 residents. Camden is the poster child for the post industrial collapse of American urban areas. It was once a beautiful city but it has fallen on the hardest of hard times.

Each year these groups combined, rescue and find homes for over 2,000 abandoned Southland dogs and cats, animals that most likely would otherwise have lost their lives. The Brown and Peruvian Pelicans

The species reached pre-pesticide numbers by the late 1990s and was fully delisted in 2009. Abandoned fishing line also threatens pelicans along with many marine animals. The Brown Pelican is Louisiana’s state bird. They had to be reintroduced to that state in 1968. Pelicans are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
