Every year, roughly 3 million lost dogs and cats end up in shelters in the United States. Lost pets is a growing issue that teens care about. So DoSomething.org asked young people to submit ideas for reuniting pets with their owners. She’s also going to start a blog featuring photos of lost pets from her community!

While many animal shelters already struggle on a day-to-day basis to care for the millions of unwanted animals that are dropped at their door, the numbers have grown to an almost unmanageable degree over the last few years. Adopt a shelter pet stamps from the postal service were just revealed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show! The 44-cent stamps feature photos of five cats and five dogs who were all adopted from shelters. Purina ONE has teamed up with Martha Stewart to visit animal shelters from San Francisco to NYC throughout the month of February. At each stop, Purina ONE will give out free Purina ONE dog and cat food to all attendees (11,000 bags across the nation), and also host adoption events at local shelters.
