The mystery of the Long-whiskered Owlet has been resolved as a new ecolodge was built right at the area where the Owlet was first discovered. It has only been seen out of a mist-net in natural conditions the year 2007 and after the creation of an ecolodge in the owlet’s prime habitat, the mystery of the Long-whiskered Owlet has been resolved.

However, the grassy meadow in Owl Woods teemed with all kinds of interesting summer residents, the most exciting of which was Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Believe it or not, I hadn’t seen one all summer. Not bad as a year bird on September 1.

In 2013 we had a very wet day in June. This goanna below is quietly hanging out beside the highway and in the background on the right you can observe a rather vocal Red-backed Fairywren. right next to us. On a small ledge, a Peregrine Falcon stands and looks towards us, framed by the cliff on its left, and the blue of the sea to its right. One cheeky Common Starling lands right next to her, even showing some bluish iridescence, so much so that at first I had thought it was the male Rock Thrush (cover photo).
