When I came here for the first time in 2014, I stayed at the Limneo B&B in the Chrisochorafa Village and met its owner, Nikos Gallios. Nikos managed to show us the incubating Cattle Egrets, of which only 2 or 3 pairs breed in this enormous heronry, counting up to 9000 pairs back in 2014. What should I expect?
Whales emerge from within the larger group of mammals that includes cattle, deer, pigs, camels, with camels being the most deeply rooted. (So The point is, of course, that whales are not cows. So pigs are camels, as you probably already suspected.) Naish, D., & Dyke, G. Science , 345 (6196 ), 562–566. doi:10.1126/science.1252243.
According to the Eponym Dictionary of Birds (Helm, 2014), “James Sligo Jameson (1856–1888) was an Irish hunter, explorer, and naturalist. BRUCE FRIEDRICH Senior Policy Director Farm Sanctuary Washington, March 4, 2014 To the Editor: The humane laws for hens in California that provide them more space in which to live should be countrywide. The same goes for pigs and cattle that are exploited and forced to live in substandard conditions. Chickens deserve to live humanely.
Well, we then thought to ourselves that we would not see one again until 2014. The four Banded Lapwings were in amongst the cattle at the edge of the road and several Australian Pratincole were also present. We remained in our car and took several photographs of this amazing discovery-did they not know they were scheduled for 2014?
If you look at this post that I did in December 2014 you will see how different the track looked then. Quite often there are Australian Pelicans , Brolga and Royal Spoonbills present and the egret species often include Great Egret , Intermediate Egret , Little Egret and Cattle Egret. Newly graded access to Munkajarra Wetlands.
We had driven to Derby for the day in December 2014 and knew it would be green! Both native animals and cattle from the stations wander aimlessly onto the highway at any time of day, but it is worse between dusk and dawn. The land is lush and green and it is advisable to stick to the bitumen due to the very soft edges!
Outlook and goals for 2014. In a funny twist of fate, it seems that 2014 will be much the same as 2012 and 2013 have been, with family trips to somewhere in France and business trips to Indonesia and Kazakhstan. What about the competitive element in my 2014 year list? A very good start into 2014. See more than 20 lifers.

That last site is where Corey, Mike, and I counted birds in 2014 , and this year, I did the same. Formerly common, their present scarcity in the country is a reminder of what happens to biodiversity when spectacular rainforest is replaced with cattle pasture. We also had some of the same rain but at least it wasn’t all day long!
The persecution of these apex predators, especially wolves , is rampant among some hunters and cattle ranchers. If you want to argue the financial side of conservation, I refer you to my December 2014 post titled “ The North American Model of Wildlife Conservation and Who Pays for It.” But I digress.
