This endangered species nests all along the south shore of Long Island and Corey was fortunate enough to see six on Friday morning at Rockaway Beach, including two fluffy youngsters. I explored a couple of amazing new areas this weekend and was rewarded with a luscious Least Bittern in flight along Sodus Bay. How about you?

Yellow-billed Cotinga – I had excellent looks of this surreal, endangered species at Cerro Lodge, and Rincon de Osa. Bare-necked Umbrellabird – Any view of this endangered species is a major event. I saw this cool bird near Limon, Sarapiqui, and at Cano Negro.

Invasive species , particularly rodents, have long been a problem on the Hawaiian archipelago. In 2015, mice suddenly started attacking albatrosses sitting on nests and attacks have been steadily increasing since. Midway, which was once a military facility, has long had mice and it once had rats, though they were eradicated in 1996.
