It was the month of March, 2017, when I went to Lake Cuitzeo to check up on our migratory waterfowl and shorebirds one last time before they travelled north to breed. Back in 2017 I was shocked to find only 15 ducks over the course of the morning, when I had hoped to find hundreds, or even thousands. This was once my lake.

Magpie Geese breed near Broome once again

In 2017 the arrival of the Magpie Geese warned us of the high rainfall ahead and then they bred in the area. In the past, when we have had a lot of rainfall in the Broome area during our wet season we have had the arrival of high numbers of Magpie Geese. The Magpie Geese bred again in the Broome area during 2018.

Seriously, cardinals are both gorgeous and interesting , but their familiarity across most of North America breeds indifference if not contempt. Brutal cold kept me locked up, which offered a perfect opportunity to appreciate the fifty shades of Northern Cardinals hanging around my house.
