Magpie Geese breed near Broome once again

In 2017 the arrival of the Magpie Geese warned us of the high rainfall ahead and then they bred in the area. The highway divides a huge expanse of flooded land and numerous bird species have bred in the area over recent weeks. We know there will be a dramatic reduction in the population of our native wildlife when that happens.

The Juniper Titmouse Nesting Project

One of my favorite bird species living by my house is the Juniper Titmouse. In 2017, my neighborhood, Aldea de Santa Fe, began a Juniper Titmouse Nesting Box Project in collaboration with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s NestWatch Program. A total of 79 fledged, which beat our 2017 count of 52.

A Survey of U.S. Birders

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of August 2017)

For example, I saw all kinds of special species this weekend, but nothing impressed me more than displays of the tyranny of tiny birds. Corey enjoyed visits to the East Pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge on both Saturday and Sunday. First, I witnessed Ruby-throated Hummingbirds haranguing a Cedar Waxwing in suburban Rochester.
