Having spent several days on a birding and hiking trip in the Alps, my two buddies and I had two more days remaining. The last segment of our hiking trip (and correspondingly the last post of this mini-series) took us to the Soierngruppe, a relatively free-standing group of mountains forming a circular barrier arround two small picturesque lakes.

we have baby chicks that we bought off of some when they where still in the egg and they recently hatched they are all a similar color to the hen but one black. The black one broke one of its legs and the hen is just leaving it behind is there a reason for that.

Bird pellets are wondrous things. Open them up and see tiny mammal skulls, teeny thigh bones, beetle wings, fusty feathers, squirrel hair, reptile scales, grasses, fruit seeds, maybe even bird bands and plastic bits. They’re useful resources for researching bird food sources (present and historical), relative numbers of small mammals in a bird’s prey area, and seed dispersal.

So there I was, with three birding buddies, in a rare outing to a site only on the very edge of Morelia’s urban area. We were looking at a beautifully flowering Coral Tree (Erythrina sp.) which had attracted lots of bird activity. One of these birds looked yellow, but with black beginning to develop behind its sharply pointed beak.

I’ve lived all my life in Toronto, Canada. I have been lucky to be able to travel to other places to bird, but Toronto is where my birding adventures began. There is always so much to see in every season. Toronto is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario. The three rivers that run through the city have carved out ravines. The city is very green, with parks everywhere.

My childhood home in Trinidad, sits in a tranquil rural area on the very edge of the boundary limits of the Borough. As a child, the lush landscapes were simply part of the background, with Black Vultures occasionally spotted gliding in the distance. Some years ago I was birding in the hills outside Ranikhet, in Uttarakhand, in the foothills of the Himalayas. Our 3 year old dog is on medication for anxiety issues, he's a Bulgarian Rescue that we have had since he was 6 months old. We have had dog trainers, and 4 behaviourist and nothing has helped his fear and anxiety. Things just seem yo keep escalating. We have the most impossible decision to make, as he bit a child in the street totally unprovoked.

Hi, I was buying food for my colony of granivorous ants, which will arrive in a few days, I was buying mealworms (meal insects) and a mix of seeds for birds, the feed, and I was wondering if it contained any insecticides that could harm my ants. We just saved a kitten from stray dogs and it's really injured and can't walk properly. I don't know how to help it, it's not coming near us and is hiding in a very dark, hard to reach spot and even if we try to help it, it's attacking us. What should we do??? I have no idea what to do now.

I recently rediscovered the worst feeling ever, sptepping on a snail, the smallest and cutest little beans. I had more than one as a kid and now nice they had a lot of babies and i mean, a LOT, around a thousands at least, which I couldn’t take care of anymore and gave them up to the wild, with lush green grass and trees. I have about 5 acres that is waterfront on a private channel to a pretty large lake. My question is, if I buy baby ducks and raise them, will they roam off into the lake and not come back? Or are they kind of like cats where they will roam but come back to their home where they know their food source is?

Are there fully white wolves in Eurasia ? When I read about wolves, I always see that fully white wolves are only present in the North America (Canada, Greenland and Alaska) and that in general American wolves display a bigger variety of colors than their Eurasian counterparts.
