In an act of kindness, the police took the dog, which was a Greyhound female, to the nearby Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, run by a man named Geoff Grewcock and known as a willing haven for Animals abandoned, orphaned or otherwise in need. And one roe deer fawn.

So what does this mean for animal shelters that are already overflowing? And limited public funding means that shelters have to rely on public donations to bear the brunt of rising costs for care and housing of these animals. Unfortunately, it means that most shelters can expect more of the same.

For the record, I am opposed to violence in behalf of animals. I can't think of anything that does more harm to the cause of animal liberation. In the long run, the best thing we can do for animals is engage in rational persuasion. If you're unwilling to abandon the principle, then you must abstain from meat.
