Further down the road, we reach a derelict building with a large veranda hidden among the trees – an abandoned hunting lodge (if I were in a situation to invest, I would choose to upgrade this into a luxury wildlife lodge). My attention was drawn upward by the elegant flying-knife form of an Osprey bearing a large fish. It flared its wings, and the Osprey flared to match but refused to abandon the fish. This is something to bear in mind when reading fables. I identified it, smiled at its luck, and moved on.

Their name is no accident – Piratic Flycatchers closely monitor the nesting activities of pendulous-nesting species like Crested Oropendolas and Yellow-rumped Caciques. Targeting a nest that is just approaching completion, the flycatchers persistently annoy the builders until they eventually abandon the nest.
