Watching a Red-tailed Hawk nest

The first year, the female sat on the nest from the beginning of March to the end of May before abandoning the nest. I’ve read that both parents will incubate the eggs, but I like to think that the female is more likely to be doing that. I saw her poking around in the nest which made me think she was turning the eggs.

The Everglade Snail Kite Is Making a Comeback

Most troubling for me, because I think of them as my birds, is the abandoned nesting attempt by a pair of Pacific Loons. I could see from the road there was an egg in the nest and when a Glaucous Gull began circling the nest I expected one of the pair to lift from the lake and return to defend the nest.
