Anyone who dares fill bird feeders in the hopes of actually, you know, feeding birds knows well the menace hungry squirrels present. Entire industries are built around preventing squirrels from completely devouring provisions intended for birds. Do you have shots of not-exactly-flying squirrels you’d like to share?
If you have been feeding black-oil sunflower and suddenly switch to straight safflower, birds will abandon your feeders. Safflower is not the favorite food of house sparrows, red-winged blackbirds and squirrels. I also use the weight sensitive “squirrel proof&# feeders to keep them out of my sunflower seed.
