As I have written before on this site, I consider even a bad day birding to still be a great walk in the woods. And this Monday was not a spectacular birding day. It was drizzling off and on all morning, and never sunny, so the birds weren’t active at all. And a few birds did gift me some photos.

Birding Sarajevo or the sentimental journey home

The series of birding workshops and meetings continued across the map, through Ulcinj, Montenegro, then Samobor, Croatia and Stip (described here ), North Macedonia, leading to Brussels, the unofficial capital of EU. The road was new, the only sign of the recent times were bullet holes in a few abandoned houses, but that was a rare sight.

Birding Chongming Island in summer

Not professionally – these people come in SUVs and probably never recapture their gas money from the fish they catch (though come to think of it, neither do I with my bird photos). This is ok as birds do not have teeth anyway). One strange thing about Chongming is the inevitable presence of people fishing. End of side note.

Finally. Jasmine the Greyhound

It had been locked in the shed and abandoned. In an act of kindness, the police took the dog, which was a Greyhound female, to the nearby Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, run by a man named Geoff Grewcock and known as a willing haven for Animals abandoned, orphaned or otherwise in need. But Jasmine had other ideas.
