It’s often considered wasteful that so many nests are abandoned and left to degenerate, but my theory of one of the reasons for this behavior is related to predation. Their nests are also a messy structure due to protective thorns on the outside, but the interior is constructed of softer grasses. Image taken in Kenya by Adam Riley.
