Long before that time Mexican domesticated Turkeys had been adopted by Native Americans in the American Southwest as well. They became known as “Turkie Fowl” (spelling varies) because they were coming from the general direction of Turkey. Diffusion to other european countries subsequently was very rapid. Which would be weird.
