The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and Joplin Humane Society successfully found permanent homes for 745 pets during its weekend adopt-a-thon event on June 25 and 26. to adopt hundreds of animals in the aftermath of last month’s devastating tornado.

This new campaign, sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States, Maddie’s Fund, and the Ad Council, hopes to reverse this trend and find homes for these homeless, lovable pets. The event is called the Purina ONE Tour For Heroes, and you can see if they are coming to your city by vising tourforheroes.marthastewart.com. At each stop, Purina ONE will give out free Purina ONE dog and cat food to all attendees (11,000 bags across the nation), and also host adoption events at local shelters.

Rock & Rawhide , the charity that helps increase adoption levels of dogs and cats in shelters, announced today that it is included in Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C)’s latest advertising campaign, “New York’s Kindest” for their donations and assistance in increasing adoption levels through distraction therapy.

Adoptable dogs from Posh Pets Rescue were there to promote pet adoption, as well as the winner of the “My Doggie Valentine&# contest, a Brussels Griffon named Ouzo. The donation will help support Adopt-a-Pet.com’s mission to find forever homes for homeless dogs. Tags: events people helping animals.

The event is to be held at Pacha on Thursday, October 22, 2009, and all funds raised will benefit the city’s broad rescue, shelter and adoption services. This year’s event will feature numerous special guests and fun activities. The evening’s main events include a canine fashion show and charity auction.
