When we adopted Violet Rays we knew she was diabetic and we chose her because we were told she was unlikely to be adopted (and had already been returned) and was living in a crate all day and night, just like at the track but at someone's house instead. The life expectancy of greyhounds is 12-15 years. She was adopted immediately, but returned almost as quickly because the people didn't realize how inconvenient diabetes can be. There she is. She has beaten the odds and made it another year. If they've raced, you subtract a year for each year of racing.
