I'm not sure how this fits into my support of animalrights though. I understand that they are trying to encourage people to eat fish and other marine life that are not part of a collapsing fishery. The purpose is to protect ocean species as a whole. If you are eating a fish, you are still eating a living thing.
A couple of years ago I wrote about whether it's a good use of my time to be a purist about the term "animalrights" when most of the world doesn't have the same understanding of the term as I do. would call HSUS an animalrights group (after all, HSUS doesn't even do that).
I believe that we have to be inclusive in the animalrights movement and attack the system using all kinds of methods in all sorts of fields. Is a vegan's efforts at advocacy worth more than a vegetarian's or even a meat eater's if they happen to agree on the same issue? Economics, science, literature, film, politics, law, etc.
Yesterday I received an e-mail alert from the AnimalRights Foundation of Florida (ARFF) regarding " a coin operated game that uses live lobsters at the Royal Palm Ale House in Royal Palm Beach. In this game, the object is to pluck live lobsters out of the water with a joystick-controlled crane."
I found a link to them on ANIMAL's blog (ANIMAL is a Portuguese animalrights group.) These scientists are NOT an animalrights group. They do support some animal-based studies (which sucks); HOWEVER, they acknowledge that much animal research is useless. Here's a group I've never heard of.
Seems that the guy that wrote Sarah Palin's convention speech was none other then noted conservative and alleged animalrights supporter Matthew Scully. Palin is known as an avid hunter; Scully is best known for his vigorous defense of animalrights. The Palin-Scully pairing is anything but a guaranteed fit, though.
Animaladvocacy groups have been lobbying for this for a while. Today, more than 40 animaladvocacy organizations across Canada praised Air Canada for its recent decision to stop shipping non-human primates into the country for use in research laboratories. Excellent news! Thank you Air Canada!
The advocacy component of old speciesism isn't the campaign to end that exploitation, however. Meanwhile, "new speciesism" is the notion that within a paradigm where rights are included for nonhuman animals, some are more deserving of rights than others for any of a variety of reasons (e.g.,
I notice that if I use "animalrights activist" or anything with the word "rights" in it, because it's loaded and misunderstood, my listener often has an immediate bias of some kind. People have a relationship, whether or not they are aware, to the term "animalrights." And not necessarily for animals.
Hal Herzog’s “ Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat ” (Harper 2011), though fascinating, is ultimately depressing for vegans and animalrights activists. Over at AnimalRights and AntiOppression , we’ve been discussing tactics and sharing our thoughts and experiences about what works and doesn’t work when it comes to advocacy.
Or, open to change, he can take the message in the ensuing pages to heart, let it shift his mind and stir his soul, and thus begin, right now, his advance toward freedom for all species (7)." This compilation is particularly important for people who believe in God and whose advocacy has religion or faith or spirituality as a component.
There's a donate button on the homepage of AnimalEquality right at the bottom of the "Pig Farms" panel. Showing people what goes on at "free-range" farms, for me, has always been a powerful part of my vegan advocacy efforts because that's always the fall-back position of the person I'm speaking with. (As
Yesterday, the world lost its most powerful voice for animalrights, Tom Regan. No one has done more to explain what "animalrights" means and why animals have rights than Tom Regan. CAF’s grants help make possible the next generation of animalrights scholarship and artistry.
animals in research, in schools or as food). And they concentrate on the health aspects of removing animals from your diet. And they reach a lot of people who don't have animalrights on their radar but might stop using animals for food if they had something to gain (assuming a clearer conscience isn't something to gain).
If you might wish to thank Utne for helping inform about the land-grant-university (LGU) meat problem and ask them to do more on it, send a brief note to editor@utne.com or Editors, Utne Reader, 12 North 12th Street, Suite 400, Minneapolis, MN 55403 -- or ring them up at 612-338-5040 (editors actually answer the phone, but don't take advantage!).
Books are obvious opportunities for advocacy and vegan education. How successful they are at creating new vegans or animalrights advocates depends on many factors. . Plus, selling it is a bit different as the quality of the writing and the story is of paramount importance.
A Humane Egg The life of animals raised in confinement on industrial farms is slowly improving, thanks to pressure from consumers, animalrights advocates, farmers and legislators.
I think the issue stems from this being an Islamic practice and the fear of contaminated meat, not concern for the animals. Two political parties in Quebec are speaking out about the ritual slaughter of animals, but a Jewish advocacy group is confident that kashrut is not being targeted.

And it's especially the case in animalrightsadvocacy. The combination is a powerful weapon for advocacy. Tags: animalrightsadvocacy. There's always a dilemma in debating any issue as to whether one should rely on emotion or reason to advance one's argument.
The fur is flying over plans by the People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals to run a porn site in the group’s fight against animal abuse. Peta.xxx will have sexually explicit content and address animalrights issues. This exploits women and is an abuse of people. They have lost all sense of balance.
