In my view, the ABA should strongly consider: (1) becoming more welcoming to new birders, and (2) increasing and formalizing ABA advocacy on issues relevant to birders. * * *. Secondly, the ABA should increase and formalize its advocacy for birders. Members will likely also have suggestions for advocacy.

To insure that those places continue to exist, birders should lead the way on education and advocacy regarding the Refuge System. And more than 200 n on-profits support individual refuges with additional private resources. The key point is that Refuge System is perhaps the most important conservation program in the United States.

With more than 2 million members across the globe, PETA is the largest animal advocacy group and comparable in size to the human rights organization, Amnesty International. First, note that now PeTA is an "animal advocacy group." But that's not the telling item. We're "weighing the impact," and the "tactics have worked," right?

This may take time and maybe lifetimes to build up to that tipping point, but we have to use everyone and every resource we can. Is a vegan's efforts at advocacy worth more than a vegetarian's or even a meat eater's if they happen to agree on the same issue? I do think that there is a real elitism in the movement, however.
