This morning I posted " On California's AnimalAbuse Registry Proposal " over at Animal Rights & AntiOppression and welcome any discussion about it. The outcome: "worship of human beings." What a fitting addition to discussions about speciesism!
It also brings to mind the uncontested link between animalabuse and violent behavior toward fellow humans. Obviously killing contests have nothing to do with traditional hunting, and “animalabuse” is normally used when describing domestic animals. So how do you classify these contests?
"Earthlings" is a film about animalabuse narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. Earthlings is a feature-length documentary about how dependent human beings are on animals, primarily in five key areas: pets, food, clothing, entertainment and science. Tags: animalabuseanimal cruelty.
Other scenes show a newborn chimpanzee being taken from its mother and an adult screaming as a lab worker aims a tranquilizer gun before the animal falls sedated from a shelf to the floor. Here is a link to the Humane Society. I couldn't get the video to work for some reason.
No doubt going after the coveted football loving animalabuser fan base. Hannah Tostensen, director of the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia, and Lisa Norton, president of Citizens for HumaneAnimal Treatment in Brunswick, complained to Bealls' corporate office in Bradenton, Fla.,
The hourlong film is an unflinching commentary on the overpopulation of stray dogs in Mexico, who even outnumber us humans in some regions. Tags: animalabuse mexico dogs. This sounds like it would be very difficult to watch. It's called "Companions to None (Companeros de Nadie)." You can watch the trailer at [link].
Quick work on the part of the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), in partnership with the Humane Society of the U.S. and more than a dozen animal shelters and rescues[1] succeeded in placing all of the rescued animals, offering hope that they will find loving homes and solace after their ordeal.
I don't support animal research and I have no sympathy for animal researchers. I don't believe they are working for human welfare. I don't believe they want an honest dialogue about what they are doing to animals. I don't believe they are "brave" for "standing up" to animal rights activists.
So why is one type of animal cruelty (dogfighting) more reprehensible than another (lobster-boiling)? If you are a non-meat-eating, non-leather-wearing, non-shampoo-using, animal-rights activist for PETA, then it is not hypocritical to judge Vick for animalabuse. And let's give slaps on the wrist to animalabusers.
It reported that human error surrounded more deaths than at any other zoo and forced immediate plans be taken to make sure of the animals’ safety. The study reported that the zoo was not properly able to handle the marine animals. Tags: zoos calgary canada animalabuse.
While the Humane Society was pretty happy with Vilsack as Obama's pick for the Department of Agriculture, the Farm Sanctuary is wary. I’m glad that Obama didn’t select Charles Stenholm, a former Texas congressman with a long history of defending animalabuse, who had sought the position with support from the factory farming industry.
“Being chained 24/7 is no way to live—they have lived miserable lives, and are just starved for human contact.&#. If you see animalabuse, please report it. We have so much love and respect for the ASPCA agents who answer these calls and help animals every day.
How many people know this about the Animal Welfare Act? No wonder there is so much "farm" animalabuse out there. Humane treatment runs counter to the entire industry when the point is to make money by processing these animals as fast as possible. Most animals in the U.S. I certainly didn't.
Here's an interesting combination of great sentiment and horrible sentiment that involves two responses from the above list: "Online critics said it was hypocritical to protect only dogs and cats, and that the government should focus on human welfare before protecting animals." Where do people get that idea?
The Difficulties Of Re-homing Abused Cats. According to The Humane Society , around 18% of all reported instances of animalabuse involve cats. It is perfectly normal to see the following behaviors in a rescue cat once you bring them home: Running away from you and other humans. Hiding, often for days on end.
If we throw up our hands in disgust at the level of support for animalabuse in America’s churches and synagogues, we will set back the animals’ cause by at least a generation and probably more. Like the old abolitionists, we must convert the churches, not write them off. Ask them what they had for breakfast.
To the Editor: Re “ AnimalAbuse as Clue to Additional Cruelties ” (news article, March 18): As someone who deals with dozens of cruelty-to-animals cases every week, I applaud states that are imposing stricter penalties on people who hurt animals and that are working to establish online registries of animalabusers.
According to this Technorati article , the Humane Society rated the states on their animal protection laws. New Jersey Illinois Massachusetts Colorado Maine WORST STATES Ohio Hawaii Alabama North Dakota Mississippi Idaho South Dakota (worst) According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the states fell this way.
It is not just a few outspoken animal rights fanatics who hold this view. Animalabuse is a crime in all fifty states, and rightly so. Similarly, most people also agree that: (2) It is wrong to kill a conscious sentient animal for no good reason. Cohen, The Animal Rights Debate , p.
It sounds like they are calling for an animalabuse equivalent of the sex offender registry. Wouldn't you want to know if a violent or repeat animalabuser were living next door to you and your family? Communities have good reason to be concerned about the whereabouts of animalabusers.
My goal is to be the best human I can be and make the world a better place and stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. He looked at me and said, "Then, why do you even give a shit?". Yes, we all get it. What good is life if you're not taking advantage of all it has to offer. But I don't see it that way.
I recently got an email from the Animal Legal Defense Fund. They are pioneering legislation in California to make public animalabuse registries. The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) today announced an effort aimed at creating public registries in each state of anyone convicted of felony animalabuse.
By comparing the common mind-set that has produced both the past injustices against humans and the current abuses of animals, we can and do inspire debate and convince many people that it is a human obligation to speak out against injustice to all beings. Animal suffering and human suffering are undeniably interconnected.
They enacted it to make animalabusers and the corporations that profit from that animalabuse richer. The rhetoric of terror has been used to “justify” human rights abuses in Guantanamo. That is why 75% of the co-sponsors of the House Bill and 90% of the co-sponsors of the Senate Bill were Republicans.
