I don't support animalresearch and I have no sympathy for animalresearchers. I don't believe they are working for human welfare. I don't believe they want an honest dialogue about what they are doing to animals. I don't believe they are "brave" for "standing up" to animal rights activists.
Researchers can continue most experiments on mankind's closest relatives -- chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans -- after European Union lawmakers watered down proposals to restrict testing. Nothing, nothing makes me angrier than animalresearchers. Tags: europe animalresearchmedicalresearch.
This article in the Herald Tribune claims that animal rights is winning out over animalresearch. I would take the article with a grain of salt. I've read the same on the other side. It depends on who's writing the article of course.I think it's still a long, long fight. But perhaps these are positive signs.
The investigation is related to the AnimalWelfare Act and Clemson's research activities, but no details are available at this time. Tags: universities animal experimentation animalresearch USDA medicalresearch.
The group is called NC3E (National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research). The Centre funds high-quality 3Rs research, organises workshops and symposia to disseminate and advance the 3Rs, and develops 3Rs information resources and guidelines.
This became clear from a report addressed at the European Parliament (EP) session on May 5–7, which seeks to vote on a directive concerning animalresearch. Tags: animal experimentation europe animalresearchmedicalresearch.
I thought this was an interesting piece contrasting three different people and their relationships with animals. One is a meat-eating professor of animalwelfare, another is an animal rights activist, and the third is an animalresearcher. This quote from the animal rights person is spot-on for me.[Maria's]
I live in Seattle and I am always skeptical of how the UW treats its lab animals. I had never heard of the use of ferrets in medicalresearch though. The UW has been cited in the past for deficiencies in animalresearch, including allowing a monkey to starve in 2009. News to me. Full story in the Seattle Times.
Over $100 million went to medicalresearch while about $1 million went to animalwelfare causes. Actually, less than $1 million dollars went to animalwelfare because a portion went to guide dog associations and that is human welfare as far as I’m concerned.) It’s more money for medicalresearch.
Department of Agriculture, which regulates the care of researchanimals, will look into the complaint, said agency spokesman David Sacks. It’s too early to say whether any of the incidents violate the AnimalWelfare Act, the yardstick for triggering enforcement action, he added.
This particular animalresearch controversy is occurring in New South Wales (Australia). Welfare groups are calling for an urgent public debate on animal testing amid claims millions of creatures are being killed or maimed every year in Australia in the name of science. From the online Sydney Morning Herald.
Actually, I didn't quit neuroscience as a result of the experiences described, but I did quit working with animals. By the end of my time as researcher, I was performing behavioral experiments on humans. But that's neither here nor there -- I'm very supportive of animalresearch in principle. Maybe on paper.
