They trespassed on his front yard, chanted slogans and accused him of being a murderer because of his use of animals in research. It hasn't been your week has it, Daniel? Understand this: This will continue until you sever all ties with Huntingdon Life Sciences. We will attack your private life wherever possible.
I like reading the blog for ANIMAL, the animalrightsgroup in Portugal. I have no idea how big or effective they are, but it's nice to know that there are people in Portugal who feel the same about animals as I do. VIVA ANIMAL! Tags: portuguese-americans portugal animalrights.
Mexico is notorious for its bullfights and lack of animalrights. There are a lot of similarities between that movement and today's animalrights movement (such as it is.but that's another post). Now, I'm an atheist, but I'm practical enough to realize that religious groups offer a certain weight and a lot of passion to issues they choose. Just look at the pro-life movement.
Thanks, once again, to James LaVeck and Jenny Stein of Tribe of Heart for kindly and carefully bringing attention to what should be a stunningly-obvious moment of hypocrisy by groups that exist to advocate for and save animals. Tags: Activism Current Affairs Ethics Film animalrights Tribe of Heart.

I notice that if I use "animalrights activist" or anything with the word "rights" in it, because it's loaded and misunderstood, my listener often has an immediate bias of some kind. People have a relationship, whether or not they are aware, to the term "animalrights." And not necessarily for animals.
I not only learned about Harvey Milk, but about the early stages of the gay rights movement (which is ongoing today when one looks at all the right-wing flutterings over gay marriage.) It made me think though about the animalrights movement. Are we really a social movement like gay rights and civil rights?

I credit Will Potter as the catalyst for shifting my focus away from critiques of other activists and activist groups (particularly his post, " While the Government Continues Attacks on Activists, AnimalRightsGroups Protest Each Other " back in 2008). And there certainly are some loud voices doing that criticizing.
Animalrightsgroups are seeking leave to appeal to the high court in their ongoing fight to have Lucy the elephant moved to a warm-weather U.S. One of the appeal court justices wrote a dissenting opinion, saying the groups should have public standing in the case and it should go to trial.
