We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animalssuffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace. Albert Schweitzer.
Your passion to help animals can become all consuming and you can start to feel bitter, frustrated and really angry that no one else seems to care about animals as much or in the way that you care. Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, Emotional Exhaustion these are all familiar topics to those of us who spend our time helping animals.
There's no "compassion" in the process. It's impersonal and hideously ugly and the animalssuffer greatly. However, the solution they have created, which harkens back to before industrialized agriculture, is simply to still raise animals for their flesh and secretions, and for profit, but to do it the old-fashioned way.
Each one of these animalssuffered extreme cruel and inhumane conditions in the transportation and slaughter process. Surely a nation and a national press that can expend so much attention on the life and death of one racehorse should be able to muster the compassion to pass legislation that would end this cruelty. 30, 2007
Our findings follow many other studies demonstrating mental anguish in traumatized animals. Suffering is far from a uniquely human experience. It is time for us to widen our circle of compassion and follow Spain’s lead in granting legal rights to apes.
We know that animalssuffer as well. I look forward to casting my vote for compassion. Although we knew that our animals were destined for the tables of America, we were taught by our parents to respect and provide them with creature comfort while they were in our care. Government animal rights regulations may help.
By comparing the common mind-set that has produced both the past injustices against humans and the current abuses of animals, we can and do inspire debate and convince many people that it is a human obligation to speak out against injustice to all beings.
