A declawed, defanged bear is chained to a stake as hunting dogs bark and snap, trying to force the bear to stand on its hind legs. Animal rights advocates say it's cruel to the nearly defenseless bears and harms them psychologically. Statutes banning animal fighting have a specific exemption for dog training. From the AP.

I've never met Bella , the orange tabby pictured above whose people abused her and tried to declaw her with pliers. And you wouldn't fund a program that was very expensive per unit (human or nonhuman animal) yet you often don't think about that when you're dealing with an individual. Or printed thousands of copies of vegan leaflets.

This month the management posted announcements stating that as of January 2007 (3 months ago, even though announcements were only posted this month) their new policy was that all cats must be declawed on their front feet, or else cat owners will face eviction. My friend is horrified by this. She has written about this on her blog.
