On Tuesday, state media reported that dozens of tigers and other endangered animals had died of malnutrition over the past two years at the Northern Forest Zoo in the Chinese city of Harbin. Workers, who later leaked the story to the media, buried their bodies in a 3-meter pit to hide the animals from authorities.

Next door to my hometown, the Gulf Breeze Zoo occupies 50 acres near the Santa Rosa Sound. The nest sat perilously close to a set of narrow train tracks, which guided an equally small train packed full of little kids and their parents to get a closer view of some of the animals.

I live near a small zoo. All of the animals, birds and reptiles who live there are native species who were once injured, have gone through rehabilitation, and ended up with a permanent disability which prevented their return to the wild. He was storing hundreds of stones to throw at visitors at the Furuvik Zoo. Keepers at Furuvik Zoo found that the chimp collected and stored stones that he would later use as missiles. I live in Seattle where Woodland Park Zoo is located. On the other hand, Friends of Woodland Park Zoo Elephants says they are not well-treated and should be in a sanctuary. Elephants need to roam and I don't particularly like having any animal gawked at in a zoo.but I don't really know if Woodland Park is worse than any other zoo.

Apparently, tainted Chinese milk is sickening animals as well. The animals, at at Hangzhou Zoo near Shanghai, developed kidney stones after being fed milk powder tainted with the industrial chemical melamine. Chinese media report that the animals had been fed on milk powder made by Sanlu Group for more than a year.

While the Black-throated Laughingthrush is native to Southeast Asia, it is also kept at the Toronto Zoo and has its own web page there. However, as the zoo is (at the time of writing this post) closed due to covid, you still have to leave Canada and come to Southeast Asia to see it. Which (due to covid) you probably cannot.
