In any case, screech-owls are birds of the Megascops genus, small nocturnal owls found in wooded habitats from southern Alaska to northern Argentina. I suppose that sounds better than “tremulous”, “modulating”, or “little hooting” owls even if any of those names would be more accurate.

This individual was seen in Costanera Sur, Argentina and found a gentle pish to be simply irresistible. The Rufous-capped Warbler, B. rufifrons occasionally strays to southern Texas or Arizona, but on the whole, they are seldom seen north of the border. The Argentinian birds come from the B.c. aureocapillus group of races.

Despite their similarities, the White-tufted Grebe belongs to the Rollandia genus ( Rollandia Rolland ), though some older field guides acknowledged the likeness by using Podiceps.

It is spring in Argentina. This brood of three Chalk-browed Mockingbirds were waiting for a parent to return with food in the Costanera Sur Reserve by the Rio Plata in Buenos Aires. I concentrated my camera on the chick on the right which was best placed, but not best pleased when an adult delivered a food parcel to one of the other siblings.

This gull inhabits the high Andean plateau of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina at elevations ranging from 3300 to 4400 m (10827 to 14436 feet). The Andean Gull could not be further from this general association. It normally lives as far from the sea as can be. A few vagrant birds are reported at coastal lagoons and estuaries.
