This land has gone through extensive ecosystem destruction from farming cattle and soybeans. The first views of a Brown Cachalote made up for all of the dust sucking experience. My first heat thumping experience came when I saw the Crested Hornero. My third crested bird-thumping experience was the Red-crested Cardinal.

Brazil’s Pantanal: A Birding Spectacle

The Pantanal hosts a mosaic of forest islands and riverside forest which is home to an interesting assemblage of regional endemics such as Mato Grosso Antbird , White-lored Spinetail , and Pale-crested Woodpecker. The incredible lighting at dawn in the Pantanal is an experience in of itself. I must mention one thing.
