According to this article from the NPR site , such rescues are occuring more regularly as dogs are increasingly becoming pets. These dogs were rescued by Chinese activists before they could be slaughtered for meat. A good story from China for once.

Since the order went into effect, Claire Butcher continued to feed the ducks in the park and was allegedly observed bringing entire shopping carts filled with food. The media seemed to be focusing on the idea that you would actually arrest a little old lady who just wants to feed the birds. She added more corn.

The Great Elephant Census found that populations of Savanna Elephants Loxodonta africana have fallen by 30% between 2007 and 2014 (around 144,000 animals poached or population shrunk at a rate of 8% a year, a level higher than their reproduction rate; source https://peerj.com/articles/2354.pdf I say they were butchered, face-off.

Here is an interesting article about cattle rustling. Known for a distinctive hump at the base of the neck, Brahman cattle are rare here and would be easily spotted at a local auction, leading investigators to think the rustlers already had a buyer — or a butcher — lined up.

Horses could soon be butchered in the U.S. that butcher horses for human consumption now, but if one were to open, it would conduct inspections to make sure federal laws were being followed. The USDA issued a statement Tuesday saying there are no slaughterhouses in the U.S.
