Here are some of the photos that I have taken over recent days of the Mistletoebird family. The raising of these young chicks is not over yet! The Mistletoebird parents have been feeding them from above and below, which may be to ensure both of the chicks get fed equally. Male Mistletoebird and nest. Female Mistletoebird and nest.

Despite the fact that they are part of the cuckoo family they do actually raise their own young. The post Pheasant Coucal family appeared first on 10,000 Birds. It is currently Pheasant Coucal breeding season. I mentioned last week that we have had a Pheasant Coucal crashing around in our garden.

My large Pied Oystercatcher family

Having found my large Pied Oystercatcher family last week I have spent a lot of time with them this week. The Pied Oystercatcher family, which almost looks like a small flock, have remained in the same place at high tide all week. Once the tide dropped they moved forward as a family and wandered along the exposed sand looking for food.

Tawny Frogmouth family in a supermarket car park

Last year I introduced you to a Tawny Frogmouth family north of Broome and the nest that they built followed by the family that they raised. This year we have been lucky enough to have the pair of Tawny Frogmouths in the local supermarket car park nest and raise one young. Tawny Frogmouth and young in February.

Pheasant Coucal-the sound of summer!

It is now summer here in Australia and there is hope of rain in the next few weeks here in Broome. Pheasant Coucals are cuckoos, but they are very unusual because they actually build their own nests and raise their own young. Earlier this year we encountered a Pheasant Coucal family close to Broome.

Birding the Kruger Park (2): Bateleur area

The one bird I did not see here, however, was the Bateleur Eagle … One highlight in the area is the Saddle-billed Stork , likely to be the tallest species in the stork family. Another member of the stork family, the African Openbill , looks like it is could benefit from a good orthodontist. And sadly, it is listed as Endangered.
