The local BaldEagles are getting busy, I suspect there is an egg in the nest. The zoo has already identified several species like the huge monkey-eating Philippine eagle that are at once distinct, endangered, and suffer from lack of attention. All I see are their buts. On my latest trip home my mom and I spent a bit of time talking about BaldEagles. Mom, who grew up in Cold Spring, was impressed as always by the tally – when she moved away in 1972 eagles were unheard-of. Now, according to my father and brother, they’re rare and show up only in transit when they show up at all.
This is irksome, as the premise is that we need to save the animals (and which ones is an interesting discussion) because we will suffer if they are gone. And of course that premise is only possible because the animals (and everything else on the planet) are our "resources." But again, he's a conservationist, so none of this is a surprise.

Except that it didn’t really happen that way, exactly.
I wonder what Americans would think if, in a Wikipedia entry, a BaldEagle would be illustrated using a photo taken at an Albanian zoo. This allows you to watch birds (well, at least those that are not too noise sensitive) while not having to suffer their sounds. But I am grumbling a little bit about it.
