And the Baltimore Oriole is an iconic eastern bird, which winters along Mexico’s east coast, but never in the west. Still, this sort of wildlife experience is available in pretty much any Mexican city. But it is a private property, to which I don’t have access. But obviously, I haven’t seen one since then.

I can’t possibly remember when the Baltimore and Bullock’s Orioles were lumped into Northern Oriole. I felt like the injustice was fresh, and that I, personally, had been robbed of the Baltimore Oriole. You’ll note that I felt robbed of the Baltimore Oriole. As feared, work kept me from appreciating the richness of avian diversity in western New York, but luckily a juvenile Baltimore Oriole crossed my path to provide something fun to observe. Corey’s Best Bird of the Weekend could have been any of a multitude of species spotted on the East Pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.

“Okay, fellow songbird rehabbers,” wrote Vonda Lee Morton of Laurens Wildlife Rescue on her FaceBook page. “Is Ever rehabbed a Baltimore Oriole ? Birds identifying birds nestling birds wildlife rehabilitators' Is this a Song Sparrow ? Tiny little pre-fledgling — nearly fully feathered. Nearly inaudible.”. They’re a blast!

I started the day at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge hoping for rails (I heard and saw none) and then made my way to Strack Pond on the western end of Forest Park where I was pleased to find White-crowned Sparrows and a Solitary Sandpiper. How can you not take a picture of a Baltimore Oriole below eye-level?

There are some birds looking to be fed on the label of this week’s beer, too, which is an excellent collaboration from Baltimore brewers Stillwater Artisanal and Oliver Brewing Company called Tuppence (Feed the Birds). I didn’t notice any denuded cadavers lying on the homeowner’s porch, so I assume she was just feeding the birds cat food.
