As I am already familiar with CL Companion, ELs and NLs, as well as the ATS/STX scopes, now I had a chance to try those toys I am not familiar with, such as hunting EL Range binoculars with built-in electronics telling the user the distance and an azimuth angle (interesting, but I still prefer my binoculars without batteries).

Head for the sea only when you fully recharge your batteries. Other species of interest include the southernmost breeding population of Greylag Goose in Europe, Goosander (at bigger and deeper Megali Prespa), Hazel Grouse (at Mt. One of the best areas to bird is the causeway between the two lakes.

I took so many photos on this outing that my battery ran out of charge before I finally saw the Grebes , so no photos of those.). In good years, some Snowy Plovers breed on this lake, but I only saw a handful there over the past year, all around the one section that did not quite dry up.).

These included nesting Lapwings, while we also added Little Ringed Plover ( pictured below ), Ringed Plover (four migrants, pausing briefly before heading north), and a fine Black-tailed Godwit in full breeding plumage. This fen has breeding Marsh Harriers, and we saw at least three different birds, while Cuckoos called close by.

And, sometimes, I use chip notes to try to lure a bird in, using just a couple of notes and only if I was sure it would not be interfering with a breeding bird or other birder’s enjoyment. After all, I don’t want to bring down the wrath of the number one birder in the world.

They need to go north to breed and we will anxiously await the return of the adults and the juveniles later in the year. You have to have a lot of respect for all migratory birds when you imagine the lives they live and the incredible journeys they make to enable them to breed and to continue to survive in a changing world.

The birds are now breeding in the area, but are quite happy to keep coming to the daily feeding station in groups of over 100 birds. At this point, I am going to take a short break from writing, rest a bit, get the batteries recharged and figure out what we are going to do for an encore to 2018.
