I didn’t know much about Birds of Paradise either before 2013, when I accompanied a non-birding friend to a presentation at a local college, not really expecting much. Also of use, as Gregory points out in the Introduction, is his experience with painting birds of iridescence, having painted a whole book on sunbirds!

The Mexican Duck, as its name suggests, is native to Mexico and parts of the southwestern United States, and unlike the Mallard, the Mexican Duck does not have a showy male breeding plumage; both sexes are brown throughout the year. What do you think?

Tropical Cyclone Joyce dumped 100mm of rain in Perth as it travelled south as a rain-bearing depression and the whole family had the experience of torrential rain in Western Australia. A family of Buff-banded Rails escaped into the vegetation ahead of us and they must have arrived with the first of the rains to breed.

Yala National Park is brimming with wildlife and there are good chances of seeing Leopard , Sloth Bear and Asian Elephant , while it is also excellent for dry-zone birds, while the nearby Bundala coastal marshes and Palatupana ponds are good spots for shorebirds.
