I have no sympathy for trophy hunters. Perhaps there are female trophy hunters out there too, but I suspect they are in the minority. Therefore, to me it's a slam dunk as to whether trophy hunters should continue to hunt polar bears. They are not hunting for food or for any subsistence whatsoever. Every member counts.

The Sacramento River NWR was established 1989 by the authority provided under the Endangered Species Act, Emergency Wetlands Resources Act, and the Fish and Wildlife Act. Now that the species is listed in the US as "threatened," hunters can't import the dead body parts (aka hunting "trophies") in from Canada. Supposedly, environmentalists and animal rights activists have "unfairly made the polar bear into 'the panda bear of North America.'" insert crying baby picture here.)

The fish owl is an endangered species, and before Slaght’s work, very little was known about it, especially in Russia. (It The fish owl is Jonathan Slaght’s grail and also, more prosaically, his dissertation topic. He wanted to do research that would have a conservation impact. So, Blakiston’s Fish Owl it was.

Hunters go to Africa to shoot lions, and this is without question a good thing; for birds, for ecosystems, and for lions in general! I guess the natural question is… how does some hunter from the US help in the conservation of the lion? Hunters are prepared to spend a lot of money for the privilege of shooting a lion.
