The conference timed nicely with sparrow migration and everyone was anxious to get views of reported Nelson’s Sparrows that were obligingly hanging out in some mud along a beaver pond. The spot to view the sparrows and pipit is right on a beaver dam surrounded by mud, it’s pretty cool.
The rooms are floating in a pond and the pond provides a home for a Eurasian Beaver family. Just across the bridge, some kind climate change people had invested a lot of money in a climate forest which to me looked like beaver food. The beavers agreed. Skeins of Greylag Geese completed the picture.
What I have always missed there and what I still miss is to experience presence of the European Beaver. The last beaver in the area was killed ten miles to the east – near Pancevo around the year 1900, but, reintroduced some dozen years ago, there are some 150 of them in the country nowadays.
In nature, you’ve got your leathery skin (like elephants or crocodiles), you’ve got your fur (like beavers and red deer), you’ve got your scales (like fish and pangolins) and you’ve got your feathers (like many theropod dinosaurs … oh, and birds).
After moving to California to audit music courses in electronic music at Mills College in the mid-1960s, he met Paul Beaver and the two of them began performing as Beaver and Krause, putting out five albums of their own and performing sound effects for scores of feature films.
This trip was actually all about photographing the grizzly bears the inhabit the Katmai National Forest, I will not bore you with the flight details, from La Paz, Mexico to Alaska, but it included several planes, one of which was a De Havilland Beaver float plane.
Some eager beavers have already broken triple digits for the year while less industrious sorts may not even be in double digits. Your 2018 year lists, whether you tally them or not, have already begun to populate, silently bearing witness to your commitment to bird looking or lack thereof.
Canadian cooks understand that the best remedy for the long, harsh winter is enjoying plenty of warm, sugary treats, desserts like butter tarts, Nanaimo bars, pouding chômeur , pets de sœurs , tarte au sucre , and beaver tails (to be clear, that’s Canadian for fried dough), to list just a few.
Another lost mammal in the UK now becoming re-established here due to re-introductions is the European Beaver. This isn’t an animal you want in your garden, or to meet on a road at night. I’ve yet to see one in the UK, but I had a memorable encounter with one while birding from a small boat on a river in Lithuania.
I saw a beaver though! The beaver was way over on the other side of the valley we were looking down at. Other than the beaver there wasn’t much to see. It was not in sight and most of the congregated birders, having already had a great show, were leaving. It was a long two-plus hours. That was nice.
In addition to the birds, we saw Mule Deer, Beaver, Muskrat , and Mink. This is an interesting group, with a Black-necked Stilt, Northern Shovelers, Long-billed Dowitchers, and a couple of Least Sandpipers. All around our little campsite, we keep getting amazed but the diversity of the wildlife.
Examples are wolf, beaver, otter, domestic cat, wolverine, wild boar, elk (moose), and reindeer. Now, let us move beyond the cover and forget the little fright the title gave me: the book’s content.
True, the brewery might have achieved the same effect by releasing a California Common beer, a style best represented by San Francisco’s legendary Anchor Steam, but perhaps Beaver State pride quashed this suggestion.
The tech company’s three co-founders, CEO Robert Beaver and his sons Jeff and Bobby and other members of the executive team unanimously agreed on Cork after visiting other European locations. You need to care for it,” says Kang, who now understands why locating in Cork was an easy decision for Zazzle.
The brewery’s logo is an American White Pelican, a regular in the Beaver State but an incredibly infrequent visitor to Vermont, allaying any concerns about the origins of this East Coast-style beer.
It provides shelter for many songbirds and water-associated animals, including the river otter, turtles, beaver, American pelicans, ospreys, and migratory songbirds. The riparian habitat along the Sacramento River is critically important for fish, migratory birds, plants, and river system health.
