It’s not like I had forgotten lists created with friends of ‘songs with birds in the lyrics’, my personal favorites being Sondheim’s Green Finch and Linnet Bird and the Beatles’ Blackbird. Nor have I overlooked “sightings” of birds in movies mouthing other birds’ calls.

The first stop, Summer Lake Wildlife Refuge in central Oregon is without a doubt one of the most important stop overs for migrating birds on the west coats, no matter the species. The well manicured area near the entrance was watered with a sprinkler system, and the mown area was quite popular with the Brewer’s Blackbirds.

Even the car park was busy with Common Blackbirds, European Goldfinch, Goldcrests and European Robins. . You will notice the pink area around the causeway on the map below and that is the shooting zone and the green area is the wildlife refuge.
