They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). A kingfisher with a somewhat deficient work ethic, I guess. Blue-throated Bee-eaters build nests on sticks sticking out of the water. At between 4 pm and 6 pm, to be exact.
