The book, which I have not read, that saved Derrick Jensen 's life is called The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability by Lierre Keith, who was a vegan for 20 years, suffered serious medical problems, and started feeling better when she recommenced eating animals. Throughout the book, Keith mocks vegetarians and vegans.

I don't personally know anyone who read a book or a pamphlet one day, became a vegan the next, and is still a vegan. I do know people who became vegan (also after watching " Earthlings ") who are now vegetarians, pescetarians and run-of-the-mill omnivores. Not one book, that's for sure (he reads about golf, history or the economy).

Much of the book deals with topics vegans have likely pondered, likely frequently. He watched cockfighting and killed and skinned animals, but won’t eat veal.

On "Food Inc."

There's no remotely vegan or even vegetarian (though I'm not even sure what the latter would look like) message. They grill the chickens, and trust me when I say it's all presented as a peak spiritual experience. We eat animals, and the CAFO system is an evil, filthy, cruel one, but it doesn't have to be that way.

On "EATING ANIMALS" by Jonathan Safran Foer

The good news is that if you know someone who needs to be schooled on all of the sordid details of factory farming, and appreciates good writing, this is a great book. Also, if, like me, you know someone who appreciates the things we do with language to mask the reality of our behavior, this is a great book. Not great, but good.
