I get that you’re really angry, I mean, he was a popular lion and yes, his cute widdle cubs will probably die to, but I can’t help feeling you’ve kind of missed the point a bit, and well, ending all hunting in Africa will not solve much and maybe make things worse and… No, no, I’m not a hunter. I mean it.

You may have read my recent piece on Birding the Okavango Delta in Botswana here on 10,000 Birds. The forests are home to Kalij Pheasants , Crested Tree Swifts , Ashy Wood Swallows , owlets, woodpeckers, spider hunters, barbets and bulbuls, laughingthrushes and hornbills. However, I have another ongoing love affair, with India.

One study found that birds living in Botswana had elevated levels of lead in their bloodstreams during hunting season, presumably coming from lead bullets used on animals killed by hunters. For example, this study showed that Malachite Kingfishers spent more time hunting in locations with more fish. ” (HBW).
