Smooth-billed Anis were relative newcomers as breeders to Florida, having only begun nesting since the 1930s. According to the Florida Breeding Bird Atlas, the first confirmed breeding record was in Miami in July of 1938. Petersburg area and Cape Canaveral.

In fact, it was the explosive expansion of introduced Eurasian Collared-Dove which lead to the range expansion of Cooper’s Hawks in urban Miami as breeders. It also leads to a steadily growing list of regularly occurring species.
