Do much birding in the city, and your thoughts will turn again and again to feral pigeons. I haven’t measured this particular specimen myself, but some breeders of short-beaked pigeons are known to take things to extremes that prevent the birds from feeding their own young. The weird little crest is decidedly un-aerodynamic.
I enjoy falconry, it’s not merely a sport or hobby, it is a lifestyle. Many get their birds from breeders. The previous snowy was a good hunter but unfortunately that owl caught a feral pigeon that had frounce and died not long afterwards–something that could happen with a wild snowy.
