How can we say that magic is a farce when the May blossoms are backdropping bright, breeding plumaged Canadas , Magnolias , Chestnut-sideds , chocolate Bay-breasteds , and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks ? When we scuff our knees and test the resiliency of our joints to peer into a bush at a Swainson’s Warbler in an urban park?

Kills in Canada, Alaska and Mexico are not included in the count. Black-capped Chickadees , Song Sparrows , and Dark-eyed Juncos start testing their breeding songs as well, though they have a longer wait before things get serious. A pair of Bald Eagles scopes out the Clark Fork for likely snags. And that season is coming to meet them.
