Species formerly referred to as P. Citrine Wagtails are rare in Shanghai but apparently quite common around Chaka, though unfortunately most of the ones we saw were not in breeding plumage. The Brown Accento r certainly ranks among the less attractive accentors, though of course, some species in this family set a rather high bar.

Some other members of the shrike family were a bit less testosterone-driven at Nanhui – like this Bull-headed Shrike … … this rather attractive-looking Tiger Shrike … … or one of the many Brown Shrikes passing through Nanhui on migration. It certainly does not refer to the status of Nanhui. ” Hm. .

The one bird I did not see here, however, was the Bateleur Eagle … One highlight in the area is the Saddle-billed Stork , likely to be the tallest species in the stork family. Another member of the stork family, the African Openbill , looks like it is could benefit from a good orthodontist. And sadly, it is listed as Endangered.

A number of families exist on Trinidad but not Tobago. Most notably the family of New World Vultures. This bird forms part of the “trilling” group of subspecies, and some already refer to it as Trilling Gnatwren. A Long-billed Gnatwren doesn’t seem that long-billed from this angle.

Many literary references are based on the Barn Swallow’s migration as a symbol of a change in seasons. Another cool fact was learning that the Barn Swallows has started to breed in South America since the 80s. What is known is that the colony in South America continues to grow as birds hatched there stay and breed there.

They are part of a family of New World Quail which includes Gambel’s, Mountain, Scaled and Montezuma Quail, as well as the Northern Bobwhite. Furthermore we have another very special stork-like bird, the regal Shoebill , previously known as the Whale-headed Stork but now placed in its own family. During breeding season, their white plumage turns a delicate pink color, a lovely sight indeed. The Saddle-billed Stork has a similar Africa-wide distribution as the Marabou.
