Here in Suffolk we now have impressive wintering flocks of Barnacle Geese, often numbering 1000 birds or more. The purist birders take little interest in them, regarding them as no more interesting, or exciting, than the flocks of Canada Geese that have long been established in the county.

It is commonly kept in captivity and has therefore established many feral populations world-wide originating from escaped / released cage birds. and the White Storks are also wild and countable despite breeding at the zoo. Yes, the Egyptian Geese there are countable. Very stupid thing to do.

A Great Egret , a few Pygmy Cormorants and, by the middle of the Danube, about a hundred Greylag Geese. Two hundred yards further, the first Common Goldeneye and Smew started to appear and, while counting Smew and geese, a Great Bittern took flight from one stand of reeds to another, right in front of us.

This striking black and white bird is a common sight in the city, even in the central business district, but it is especially common in the park and breeds on the islands in the lakes here. Feral Turkey are also quite common. As well as this species you might see Black Swans , Canada Geese and of course Mallards and Mallard/Grey Duck hybrids everywhere as well. Other wading types birds you can see less commonly are Pied Stilts and White-faced Herons ; keep your eyes open as you go past wetter areas.
