Though they breed on the tundra, Pomarine Jaegers spend most of their lives at sea. If a seabird is trying to breed, if all the forage is too far from their nest, their nest is guaranteed to fail. Seabirds will surely have much less real estate to work with in the coming years. This has repercussions across the food web.

On Lady Elliot Island in our southern Barrier Reef, where I visited in late 2020, the Black Noddies began breeding recently in 1985. Lady Elliot Island (LEI) was clearly a wonderful seabird breeding island as attested by the huge reserve of guano. Wonderful clear water reveals an astonishing diversity of fish and marine life.
