Before I was born, it used to be a rare breeding species in mountainous areas south of Belgrade, but became extinct after the 1960s due to intensive poisoning of wolves. Stopping for a large cappuccino at a drive-in McDonalds en route, soon I entered a hamlet of a dozen family homes mixed with a dozen small apartment buildings.

Horned Screamer Michael McDonald is a lot like Wile E Coyote and would like to see a Rufous-vented Ground-cuckoo ! Not to mention, its brilliantly bulbous crimson throat, bloated during breeding season must be a sight! My most-desired Brazilian bird? Easily, it’s the Rufous-vented Ground-cuckoo ( Neomorphus geoffroyi ).

Fortunately, there are a few more such breeding species than most Shanghainese are aware of. While the HBW states that it breeds at 300 – 2450 meters, in Shanghai – where such elevations are not available outside of the upper floors of a few highrises – it makes to with an altitude of about 0 meters as well.

Gull-billed Terns breed in south San Diego Bay, along with Black Skimmers and several other tern species. McDonald Road, south end of the Salton Sea, CA. Southern California always has a host of interesting wintering rarities. Fall through spring. Imperial Beach, CA. Best spring and fall. Bowles Road, south end of the Salton Sea, CA.

And indeed, the Tel Aviv McDonald’s does not sell any Hoopoe Burgers. According to one paper , the Spotted Redshank is the German among the waders, at least in Finland: its arrival and departure on the breeding grounds are the most predictable. Surprisingly, they only stay on the breeding grounds for about 5 weeks.

Red and yellow are the colors symbolizing several different things – for example, McDonald’s, the People’s Republic of China, Mastercard, and Kodac. This species might indeed merit a bit more research – the only paper I found on its breeding looked at only 7 nests (of which 3 failed).
