A breeding bird atlas is a special kind of book. Corey did just this in this 2011 posting about Vesper Sparrow Pooecetes gramineus in New York State. I was also curious, as a birder of the northeast United States, to see what kind of avian changes have been going on in Pennsylvania.

Indigo Buntings breed from southern Canada across the eastern and central United States, and as far west as Nevada. Though the birds I saw were silent they can easily be found on breeding territory by listening for their repeating song, which is often transliterated as “Fire! Well, check out the next shot!

The Mountain Bluebird is one of the most striking birds in the United States, and is the state bird of both Nevada and Idaho. Though not officially adopted until 1967, the Nevada Federation of Women’s Clubs voted for the Mountain Bluebird all the way back in 1930 and 1931. million breeding birds.

The population in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada was designated as such in 1996 , before the first release from Vermilion Cliffs National Monument in Arizona. It is a collaboration of Rogue and the Oregon Zoo , one of a handful of condor breeding facilities in the United States ( review here ).

There are Vast Amounts of Federal Land Approximately 28% of the entire land area of the United States is federal land , about 640 million acres. However, federal land is not evenly distributed within the United States.

Of course, reading field guides breeds jealousy. American White Pelicans have been making a bit of a splash in the northeast United States lately, with more and more birds straying into the region over the years. As hard as it is to believe, the West Coast IPA has lately become the old guard of American craft brewing.
