While I write this, the vessel is on a trip from Shekou, China to Callao, Peru, presumably to pick up some ore, most likely copper ore. When breeding, the female finds a cavity in a tree and seals the entrance. I knew you would be excited to learn about this. Probably Wikipedia is more specialized on birds than the HBW.

Brown Pelicans in non-breeding plumage. The Peruvian Pelican is restricted to the cold water of the Humboldt Current along the coast of Peru and Chile. The two overlap in the northern coast of Peru, which constitutes the Brown Pelican’s southern most point in its regular wintering ground along the Pacific.

By March though Scandinavian Rock Pipit begins to show some changes into breeding plumage and outs itself as a migrant rather than a resident. By the way: at the Baltic coast we had large flocks of spinoletta migrating through in late March/April, and due to them moulting from non-breeding to breeding plumage, many had seemingly pale lores.

Being winter, this bird is in non-breeding plumage with more brown upper parts and lacking the white face it acquires in its aternate (breeding) plumage. On the way out I spotted a lone White-faced Ibis ( Plegadis chihi ) engaged in behavior I had not seen before. It was foraging in breast deep water.
